Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

Write to the school if you wish to withdraw your child from special religious education, sometimes known as scripture. Special education in ethics is an option for your primary-age child if you withdraw them from special religious education. For more information, visit Religion and ethics.

In 2019 DET Schools were advised to prepare and implement the revised Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE) procedures. This is delivered in schools by negotiation and agreement between the principal and the approved providers based on community demographic and needs.

At Rouse Hill Public School we offer a variety of Special Religious Education Programs which the students are able to access each week during our designated scripture time. Our Scripture groups and a link to their website where curriculum and support documents are as follows:

Combined Christian Scripture

Accredited teachers will use the authorised curriculum of the Sydney Anglican Diocese. A copy of the curriculum can be found at:

http://www.whysre.com.au/sre-curriculum/cep-curriculum-overview/

Catholic Scripture

Accredited teachers will use the authorised curriculum of Christ our light and life. A copy of the curriculum can be found at:

Hindu

Unfortunately we have been unable to obtain any authorised SRE teachers to teach Hindu Scripture at this point in time

Islamic Scripture

Unfortunately we have been unable to obtain any authorised SRE teachers to teach Islam Scripture at this point in time. However, we have contacted the Islamic Special Religious Education board to organise this for the future.

Ethics

The ethics program is a skilled based program designed to support the important work of parents, carers and teachers by giving children the confidence and skills to talk about ethical issues with those around them; to question what they see and read, to think things through and seek and evaluate reasons. These important life-long skills help children to make well considered decisions rather than acting out of habit or peer pressure.

Primary Ethics offers a unique program in which parent and community volunteers facilitate ethics classes and in doing so make a valuable and rewarding contribution to their local schools.

Unfortunately we have been unable to obtain any authorised Ethics Teachers to teach to facilitate this program. If you would like further information on how to train as an Ethics Teacher to help implement this program the information can be found at:

Values

During this time if parents haven’t nominated a designated scripture group for their child or a SRE teacher isn’t available, students will participate in a series of values lesson relating to our school rules and core beliefs around, respect, empathy, kindness and wellbeing. These lessons will take place with our teachers and are taught at appropriate grade levels.
